A Message From the Executive Director: A World at Peace Knows No Season 
Someone once said, We cannot do everything at once, but we can do something. This summer at The Carter Center, the somethings add up to conducting major activities on three continents within six weeks.

 

Council Makes Recommendations To Address the Americas' Agenda for the 21st Century
In late April, former Presidents Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford and the Center's Council of Freely Elected Heads of Government hosted a consultation to discuss relations in the Americas. Participants included Latin American and Caribbean leaders, U.S. officials, heads of international organizations, and members of the media. The Council, which includes current and former leaders from the Western Hemisphere, promotes democracy and economic cooperation in the region.

 

Women Leaders Join Rosalynn Carter To Advance the Mental Health of People Worldwide
In July, Mrs. Carter and women leaders from 17 European nations addressed this issue at the Helsinki, Finland, meeting of the International Committee of Women Leaders for World Mental Health.

 

Community Members Work To Reduce Gun-Related Deaths Among Children
Once, a high school student's biggest fear might have been failing algebra or English. Today, many students worry more about getting shot. The Carter Center's Not Even One (NEO) Program has created a demonstration site in Atlanta to address the epidemic of Americans age 17 and younger who are killed by guns.
