Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter testifies in favor of the Wellstone Act before a House Education and Labor Subcommittee on July 10, 2007. A House subcommittee chaired by Rep. Rob Andrews, New Jersey Democrat, heard testimony regarding the Paul Wellstone Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act (H.R. 1424), which would ensure that mental health and addiction patients are treated no differently than other medical or surgical patients.

For more than 30 years, Mrs. Carter's active leadership in the field of mental health has helped bring this topic to national prominence as a vital component of overall health and wellness.
